How My Mindset Changed

Life is short, between work, school and family we tend to lose the essence of life, instead of enjoying life we exist. At least that is how I feel sometimes. So, I decided to change my ways. My biggest problem was fear, afraid of this or that, of failure. Come to think of it, I think that is the only thing stopping me from achieving my goals. I believe if you set your mind to something, anything is possible. So here are my three motivational tips I would love to share.

  1. First and foremost, Take Risks. I do not mean anything dangerous or life threatening, but getting out of your comfort zone is the only way you will truly be able to discover yourself on a deeper level. I realized this after my trip to Costa Rica.  Booking his trip, flying out by myself was the best thing I have ever done. I had the time of my life. Only during this trip did I realize how much stronger I am of a person than I really thought. It really forces you to become in sync with yourself when you are traveling alone. 
  2. Finish what you start. Many times after the first or second try, if we do not receive the results we want, we give up. I am definitely guilt of that. Yet the magical thing about failure is, without it we cannot learn and grow. We must fail in order to see where we can improve and finishing a task is probably one of the hardest thing to do. Sticking with a regime is difficult on its own, but once you get into the habit of doing it, everything else will come naturally. For example, I hate doing my bed, but I love coming home to a clean and organized house. So I told myself, if I do my bed for two weeks straight, I will reward myself in the end. This gave me something to look forward to. The same goes with anything, reward yourself for the hard work you do. You deserve it! 
  3. Engage in positive thoughts. One of my favorite quotes is “you cannot control what happens in life, but you can control how you react to it”. Situations will arise where you feel helpless and out of control. These moments can be terrifying, but the ability to take a deep breath and release the negative emotions will not only leave you feeling less stressed but also have a positive impact on your overall health. Sometimes it is hard to deal with the emotional build up, in those situations I like to take a walk with my walk or take warm bath. Then, once I have calmed down I return to the situation and deal with it much more efficiently than I would have in the heat of the moment.

June Gloom No More- 4 Items That Kept My Skin Happy This Month

Humidity and cloudiness, not the best combination for the skin. Humid weather dries my skin  out, and cloudy weather makes me feel like I don’t need to wear sunscreen when in fact, those hidden UV rays are the worst perpetrators for aging skin. Fortunately, here some products that work well for me and keep the June gloom away.

This Vitamin C glow-protect lotion is light and easy to apply. It smells delicious, a mixture of tangerines and vanilla. The texture is a bit on the thicker side due to it being a combination of moisterizer and sunscreen, but the glowing effect is worth it.

The Jane Iredale hydration spray works as a two in one product which is why I go through it so fast. It could be use a make-up settingb spray as well as a light mist which hydrates your skin after a long day in the sun. This spray leaves you feeling cool and your skin silky smooth. The refreshing rose scent helps me feel calm and relaxed.

Serums are most effective after cleansing your skin but before applying moisterizer. It penetrate your skin with ingrediants which contribute to healthier skin. This one in particular is my number one choice. Why? It is made of all natural ingrediants so I do not feel like I am applying chemicals to my skin. The rose hips and green tea give it a sweet smelling scent yet not overbearing to the senses. The vitamin C reduces inflammation and promotes collegen repair.

This Rodial face cream indeed feels like pure velvet on the skin. Applies easily without leaving a heavy residue on the face, it dries quickly and leaves your face refreshed and dewy. I love to use it overnight because it absorbs well into the skin but it works quite well as a day cream as well.

Don’t Be Afraid, Be Bold

 When I saw this fiery, floral crop top I just knew I had to have it. Bold and beautiful, this shirt is the perfect statement piece. Worn together with a pair of my favorite jeans and my Sam Edelman sandals I feel chic with a touch of bohemian vibes.

The jeans I am currently wearing are from the store Cotton On. I am obsessed with their bottoms because they are very form fitting. Sometimes it is hard find a pair of jeans that flatter my shape. (Jean shopping is definitely a bit stressful sometimes ;)).

My shoes are a pair of dark orange Sam Edelman sandals which I purchased at Nordstrom Rack. I love detailing, whether it is on shoes or clothes and the diamond-shaped silver pins immediately drew my attention. The fact that they are super soft and comfortable to walk in sealed the deal. They were mine for the taking.  On my wrist I am wearing an assortment of multi-colored bangles. I purchased these at Forever 21. The choker around my neck is a dark brown and was purchased at h&m.

I added a thin gold chain around my waist to give my waist a bit of glitz.

Two Pieces: Why I love Them

Happy Saturday loves and welcome to summer! Four days in and I am already feeling the heat. Today, I wanted to share one of my favorite outfits. 

This cute two-piece outfit is perfect for summer. The lightweight fabric is very breathable, and the design reminds me of a tropical island. Two piece outfits are a wonderful addition to your closet because one, you don’t have to search for a matching top or bottom, the combination is already perfect for the regular day to day, and second, you can most definitely mix and match both pieces. I love to wear the top with a pair of jeans and the bottoms with a cute t-shirt.

My accessories are minimal but still bright enough to give my look a pop of color.

My hat is from a small boutique store near my house. I have seen many similar hats in stores such as Target and Marshals, so finding one should not be too hard, as they are quite stylish.

My shoes are Sam Edelman’s from Nordstrom. I love the glittery look. It compliments the look without taking away from the outfit.

My green and gold bracelet is from Fossil. I purchased this bracelet a few years ago, when I instantly fell in love with it. I love it because I can match it with various clothing that I have. The red and brown one came as a pair from the Fashion District in downtown LA. These were purchased a few years ago as well.

The top is about an inch longer in the back and shorter in the front. The shorts are high waisted, which are my favorite style. Both pieces are loose, but still fitted in all the right places, giving your figure the appropriate curves. This two-piece is from Romwe.com.

3 Ultimate Spa Treatments For the Summer

Summer is only five days away! That means pool, beach and picnic time. Wouldn’t you love to have shiny hair, and glowing skin without spending a fortune on products?

Here are 3 simple, inexpensive methods of getting smooth skin and shiny hair.

1. Let’s start with an easy coffee scrub. Simple, yet effective, coffee, when used as a natural buffer reduces cellulite and increases blood flow.

Stir it up

First, grab a cup of ground coffee, preferable unbrewed, (because I find brewed coffee grinds create a mushy and watered down texture). Then mix in 2 table spoons of honey and 3 tablespoons of virgin, organic unrefined coconut oil. Honey helps heal tissue scarring and evens out skin tone. Coconut oil hydrates and moisturizes the skin while at the same making your body look and smell delicious. I live by coconut oil.

Scrub

Now you have 2 options. Either add a generous amount of unscented body wash into the scrub or scoop out a handful of scrub and add body wash into it. Then in a circular motion, gently rub entire body. Don’t forget areas behind your neck, your knees and feet.

I love this Aveeno bodywash because it is very gentle on the skin and smells lovely.

2. Let’s continue with with the hair, because deep down we all go nuts over shiny hair.

Mix together 1 tablespoon mayonnaise, 1 egg, 1 tablespoon coconut oil, and 1 teaspoon honey. Make sure the coconut oil is melted, just pop it into the microwave for 10 seconds. Then, apply to wet hair, put on a shower cap and wait 30 minutes for the magic to happen. Afterwards rinse it off and wash hair as usual.

3. Let’s face it (haha), our face is prone to dust and chemicals which are released into the air. These pollutants clog our pores and causes breakouts. So, mix a tablespoon of honey and one teaspoon of sugar but…

First things first, steam your face by boiling  1/2 a gallon of water, then pouring it into a large bowl. Lean over the bowl about 1 foot away for 10 to 15 minutes. You can add essential oils as well to help you relax even more. Then apply the scrub in a gentle circular motion all over your face.

After you shower off, make sure you apply your favorite moisturizer to your body. I like the body butters from Bath and Body Works because they are intensely hydrating and leaves my skin silky smooth.

Summertime is here, and what does that mean? Vacation time! Whether it’s visiting family, or going to tour another country, packing is inevitable.

My First Time Traveling Abroad

Traveling has always been a goal of mine. Working in a restaurant in Los Angeles made me want to break away from fast paced, traffic stricken days and my desire to free myself from the mundane, monotonous lifestyle gave me the courage to pack my bags and fly to Costa Rica for five days.

Arriving in Costa Rica, I felt immediate culture shock. At the entrance of the airport, there were tons of people offering taxi services. I felt a little nervous at first, never experiencing such determination from the taxi drivers. I almost felt as though I was surrounded by paparazzi without the cameras.  But having found a few of my travel companions earlier, I felt a wave of relief at not being all alone as I weaved through the crowd looking for the rest of my group.

As soon as I arrived, I dove into the rich culture headfirst . The first thing I did was jump into the water for a refreshing swim as the typical weather in Costa Rica is very humid.

As I watched the sun set across the horizon, I couldn’t help thinking to myself, is this a dream? I walked to the locally owned restaurant with my travel companions, where I indulged myself in the rich flavors of Casado, a dish consisting of rice, beans, fried plantain, and refreshing salad.

The following day after a quick breakfast, my travel companions and I took the bus to San Manuel Antonio National Park. I will include the link (http://manuelantoniopark.com). I hiked through the national rain forest, taking in the sights and sounds of a whole new world. White-headed capuchin monkeys, native to this region, climbed trees, one even came up to say hello. I have to admit he was a handsome fella, but a tad mischievous. One snached a bag of croissants from a couple on the beach. I cannot blame him though, everyone loves a treat. The best part was watching a sloth creep down the trunk of a very thin tree. What skill they must have to stay so balanced.

The cherry on top of this trip was meeting and becoming close to an amazing group of people who have a similar passion of traveling. I never even imagined would become so close with individuals I had just met. Yet as I sit here now and think about my experience, every moment, conversation, laugh runs through my mind clearly. I already miss the crazy dancing, the deep conversations along the shoreline, the jolly bus rides to the next adventure.

My biggest take away from this amazing adventure was be brave, take risks, get out of the cycle. The world is your oyster.  Pure Vida!!!
