My First Time Traveling Abroad

Traveling has always been a goal of mine. Working in a restaurant in Los Angeles made me want to break away from fast paced, traffic stricken days and my desire to free myself from the mundane, monotonous lifestyle gave me the courage to pack my bags and fly to Costa Rica for five days.

IMG_4386.JPG

Arriving in Costa Rica, I felt immediate culture shock. At the entrance of the airport, there were tons of people offering taxi services. I felt a little nervous at first, never experiencing such determination from the taxi drivers. I almost felt as though I was surrounded by paparazzi without the cameras.  But having found a few of my travel companions earlier, I felt a wave of relief at not being all alone as I weaved through the crowd looking for the rest of my group.

As soon as I arrived, I dove into the rich culture headfirst . The first thing I did was jump into the water for a refreshing swim as the typical weather in Costa Rica is very humid.

As I watched the sun set across the horizon, I couldn’t help thinking to myself, is this a dream? I walked to the locally owned restaurant with my travel companions, where I indulged myself in the rich flavors of Casado, a dish consisting of rice, beans, fried plantain, and refreshing salad.

The following day after a quick breakfast, my travel companions and I took the bus to San Manuel Antonio National Park. I will include the link (http://manuelantoniopark.com). I hiked through the national rain forest, taking in the sights and sounds of a whole new world. White-headed capuchin monkeys, native to this region, climbed trees, one even came up to say hello. I have to admit he was a handsome fella, but a tad mischievous. One snached a bag of croissants from a couple on the beach. I cannot blame him though, everyone loves a treat. The best part was watching a sloth creep down the trunk of a very thin tree. What skill they must have to stay so balanced.

The cherry on top of this trip was meeting and becoming close to an amazing group of people who have a similar passion of traveling. I never even imagined would become so close with individuals I had just met. Yet as I sit here now and think about my experience, every moment, conversation, laugh runs through my mind clearly. I already miss the crazy dancing, the deep conversations along the shoreline, the jolly bus rides to the next adventure.

My biggest take away from this amazing adventure was be brave, take risks, get out of the cycle. The world is your oyster.  Pure Vida!!!

February Faves

Happy Thursday !!!

With February halfway over, and thankfully so in my opinion (as I am ready for spring), I wanted to share a few of my favorite items this month. The reason I love them so much is because they are very versatile year round, but especially so in the colder winter months. Each item brightens up my day in their own way. We all have that special someone, that long lasting mascara, or the favorite lipstick, well I have several loves and I will explain below each image.

IMG_0429.JPG

Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet

Dior/$60.00

This perfume has got to be my favorite of all time. A sweet delicate flowery scent, it is so versatile that I use it for both daytime and evening wear. The bottle comes in two sizes, this one being the smaller of the two, but it still lasts me about eight to ten months. I love the little bow tie on the lid of the bottle. It is very feminine and just makes me happy. This particular perfume I purchased at Nordstrom, but they are also available at Sephora, Macy’s and Ulta.

Be Legendary Lipstick

Smashbox/$21.00

Although Valentine’s Day is over, these two lipsticks from Smashbox are a perfect addition to your makeup collection. These classic colors are superb for a date night or dinner with a friend. It gives the perfect pop of color with any outfit.

IMG_0459.JPG

Better Than Sex Mascara

Too Faced/$23.00

If you are looking for an amazing mascara this is it! I usually use two different types, but with this single one, my lashes look perfect. It is on the pricier side, but I can definitely say it is worth it. I use only about two coats, and I am left with luscious, thick lashes. I also love that it comes in waterproof form too, so on the nights when I don’t want to carry much with me, I know my lashes will stay close to perfect all night long.

Pro Bronze Fusion Bronzer

MAKE UP FOR EVER/$36.00

I am a huge fan of Make Up Forever products in general, but this bronzer was a great investment. It is such a pretty, yet subtle color. Although it is a bit difficult to get it on the brush at first due to the texture, as you work into it, you get a natural, beautiful glow. It is waterproof, therefore will last you all night whether you go out dancing or to a movie.

 Born To Glow Liquid Illuminator

NYX/$7.50

If you are looking for the perfect glow, you’ve found it. Inexpensive yet effective, this illuminator will give you a natural, healthy glow. And a little bit goes a long way. All you need is a dab, extending the life of your illuminator for many months. Definitely a keeper!

IMG_0438.JPGIMG_0439.JPG

Radiant Creamy Concealer

NARS/$30.00

This creamy NARS concealer in the color Ginger is a part of my everyday makeup routine. It provides medium to full coverage and is light enough to wear on a daily basis but covers enough to not need foundation. I love that I don’t feel any heaviness and it is very easily applied with its brush. It is paraben, sulfate, and  phthalates free so I feel comfortable applying it daily.

British Rose Instant Glow Body Butter

The Body Shop$/21.00

This body butter is literally heaven on earth. I cannot describe how ecstatic I am with this particular product. Not only does it smell delicious, but the texture of it is so smooth and lustrous, I simply count the minutes until I can apply it. It hydrates my skin quickly without leaving any sticky residue leaving my skin glowing all day. It comes in two sizes as well, which is perfect in case I want to reapply it, I can leave the bigger one at home and carry the smaller container in my bag. I highly recommend this body butter.

Rose Lollipop Lip Balm

Lush/$9.95

This silky, smooth lip balm is the perfect travel size. Its floral scent is a joy, and will leave your lips smooth and glossy.

IMG_0451.JPG

Face Illuminator Powder

Laura Mercier/$44.00

This illuminator is so beautiful, I feel joy every time I use it. The color and texture of it is very light and easy to apply. You will be shimmering for hours after using this face illuminator.

Smooth Affair Facial Primer

 jane iredale/ $48.00

I am in love with products that smell like grapefruit. This facial primer is one of my favorite items from jane iredale because it contains many natural ingredients such as grapefruit extract, thus the lovely smell, Honeysuckle extract which purifies the skin, aloe, which smooths the skin as well as many other ingredients. What I love the most about this product is being able to use it as a face primer before I apply makeup, as well as a moisturizing agent at night.

Pro Amazonian Clay Palette

tarteTarteist™/$53.00

This palette is probably my new favorite. The palette contains an array of 20 shades which vary from neutral to glam. The amazonian clay generates vibrant, pigmented shades which are a perfect combination for blending. The colors are beautiful and can be used for a day look or glammed up for the evening with the bold colors on the far right.

Oh My, Lace

This season has definitely been on the wet side, and although I love rain, I have been missing the warm sunny days characteristic of California. Somehow I feel most productive when the sun is shining and the birds are singing. Amid that, I miss wearing summer dresses. Having purchased this particular dress (Crisscross-Back Hollow Out Lace Up Dress) a few months ago, I have been dying to wear it out. And finally the day came. It was in the high seventies and I told myself, today is the day.

I purchased this dress on a website called Romwe.com and although I am usually very skeptical about buying clothing online, (I like to try it on first and make sure it fits), I decided to give it a go. To my delight, all the items I purchased were perfect. Not only were they inexpensive, this dress was only US $16.41, but they arrived fairly quickly, within a month. This dress is on the shorter side, but very comfortable with a back zipper and halter spaghetti straps that tie together mid back. The fabric is made out of cotton blends, therefore perfect for warm, summer days.

What caught my attention about this dress was the detailing. The section at the waist is embroidered with pink flowers circling the waist. Along the front and the back of the dress the flowers are intricately woven on, portraying a very soft and feminine look. The dress is a pastel pink and I wasn’t sure if it would stay warm for the duration of the day, so I layered it with my washed out YMI denim jacket. For shoes, I wore a pair of grey suede Via Spiga sandals (www.viaspiga.com).  I decided to keep it simple with accessories, wearing a pair of golden hoop earrings with pastel beads attached to them, and a light-colored bracelet, both of which I purchased at Claire’s (www.claires.com), an accessory store usually found in shopping malls here in California.

I highly recommend Romwe.com for cute, well made pieces. Let me know what favorite online stores you have in the comments below! I would love to chat. Have a lovely weekend! XOXOXOXOXOXO

Having at least one versatile piece in your closet will be a lifesaver on those days when you want to look cute, but have limited time. Quick, Healthy Breakfast

Greetings everyone,

We all have heard the saying “breakfast is the most important meal of the day” at one point or other in our lives. Whether that is true or not, who knows. For me personally, making a quick, light breakfast sets the tone for the rest of my day. I feel energized, happier and overall ready to start my day. Since I usually start work quite early, around 8am, I usually do not try to cook up anything complex. Lately, I have been obsessed with this easy to make Avocado Toast. I hope you enjoy, and if you have your own recipe, comment below. I would love to hear about it.

FullSizeRender.jpg

Ingredients:

1 Slice bread-toasted (I recently discovered this wheat and gluten free bread at Ralph’s and decided to give it a go. My new go to bread)

1/2 Avocado(mashed)

2 eggs(can be cooked any style,  I prefer poached)

1 teaspoon goat cheese

1 teaspoon cut up dill.

A bit of black pepper

IMG_3772.JPG

Simply spread half of the avocado on your choice of toasted bread.IMG_3774.JPG

Sprinkle black pepper. Add the cooked eggs. Top off with goat cheese and dill.

Voila! Your avocado toast is ready to eat.IMG_3776.JPG

Cut it in half, make yourself a nice cup of tea or coffee(I prefer coffee with cream and sprinkled on top is a bit of cinnamon) and you have the perfect breakfast. Sit back, relax and start your day off right.
